Top 5 Worst Things You’re Doing to Your Skin
It’s almost 2017 – can you believe it?!l A new year should bring on new habits – I’m talkin’ skin care habits here! It’s amazes me that with all the information out there, people are still using bars of soap on their face! I’m not saying you need to be a skin care expert; I’m just saying we all need to know the basic do’s and don’ts. Here are the 5 worst things you’re doing to your skin and need to stop.
- Exposing your skin to UV light
Whether it’s UV rays from the natural sun or a tanning bed (big no no!), UV rays are the worst possible thing you can expose your skin to. Sun exposure accelerates collagen loss thus causing premature wrinkles. Not to mention unsightly sun spots and skin cancer. No matter the season, yes even winter, a broad-spectrum sunscreen on the face is a must! Not all light exposure is bad for the skin LED Light Therapy is a great way to help your skin stay looking fresh and rejuvenated.
- Going to bed with makeup on
So, we’ve discussed this in previous blog post, however it lands as the second worst thing you can do to your skin. We all have days where it comes to the end of the night and all we went to do is lay in and pass out; I feel you. However, skipping this step causes your skin to get filled with makeup, dirt, and oil. Which then leads to breakouts and blackheads! Cleansing your skin every night will remove excess oil and dead skin cells, which will help you regenerate new ones!
- Using soap to clean your face
I didn’t even think people still used bars of soap on their body, let only their face! These kind of soaps, and other normal soap that is meant for your body, are extremely drying for the skin. They are drying because it strips the skin of its natural oils. In the long run, using soap on your face with cause dehydration and irritation. A proper cleanser, ZONA recommends a medical grade one, every morning and night is an essential step to your best skin.
- Over-exfoliation
It’s a common belief that more is better, however that is not the case with exfoliation. Using scrubs, peels, and exfoliation brushes everyday can cause damage to the skin. It can even lead to breakouts! Granular or natural forms of exfoliation are amazing ways to remove dead skin cells, and should only be done 2-3 times a week.
- Only getting a facial once a year
Getting facials only once a year or occasionally, is not effective in maintaining a healthy skin care routine. How ZONA’s Esthetician likes to explain is it that, even if you are taking proper care of your skin at home, getting regular facials is like the glue that keeps all you’re at home maintenance together. Our Esthetician can take a thorough look at your skin and let you know if you need to pay special attention to anything.
