Move over Botox - Theres a New Toxin in Town
There's a new tox in town! Until now there have been 3 neurotoxins on the market - Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. Thanks to the FDA we have a new option - Jeuveau! Jeuveau, was just approved for the treatment of moderate to severe glabellar lines (the lines between your brows) and is expected to roll out spring of this year.
Why is this newsworthy?
It's newsworthy not only because it affects our industry but also because its the first brand new neurotoxin to fit the U.S market in almost 10 years! Adding to the total of now 4 FDA approved toxins for cosmetic purpose, it added just another tool in the beauty toolbox to choose come from.
What makes it different?
Honestly, there's not too much information out there about this toxin quiet yet -but this is what we know. First off, Jeuveau is a prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs...we know that's a tough one to pronounce! Whereas Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are all Botulinum toxins type A. According to, Evolus's press release about the chemical, prabotulinumtoxin is the purified version of botulinum toxin type A. Therefore we can assume Jeuveau is similarly structured to the latter toxins. As for results, that's something we'll have to evaluate. The difference will most likely be subtle, just as it for the differences between Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. If it's comparable to the other options we will most likely offer Jeuveau in addition to our office's injectables list. Only time will tell whether it will replace the products we currently offer!
