FDA Warns How Dangerous Silicon Injections are For Body Contouring
Silicon Injection are Extremely Dangerous, Says FDA Warning
Botox and Fillers are everywhere in the beauty world, and are very safe when administered by an experienced and trustworthy practitioner. Unfortunately, the popularity comes with a corrupt side: unapproved procedures trying to cash in on the injectable trend that can be really risky. The FDA just released a serious warning about silicone injections in particular.
In the statement, the FDA warns against using silicone fillers for body contouring such as butt, breast, and lip plumping. The announcement reads, “The FDA is aware of cases in which unqualified providers – some posing as doctors or licensed healthcare practitioners – have injected illegal or unapproved body filler like silicone or oils into patients”. Once loose silicone is injected into the body, the product can move throughout the body and cause serious health consequences, in some cases death. Not to mention, the enhancement can also result in unsightly and painful, gravel-like bumps that stays permanently beneath the skin.Places on the body that have a lot of blood vessels are especially dangerous. When silicone is injected into those areas, such as the buttocks, silicone can travel through the vessels to other parts of the body and block blood vessels in the lungs, heart, or brain. Which of course can cause a stroke or even death.Any fillers for body contouring purposes technically falls under the “no-no” list according to the FDA. However, plastic surgeons and injectors performing non-surgical butt-lifts regularly. They're all over social media. Just make sure the practitioner is using Sculptra, a poly-L-lactic acid filler – not silicone. A Sculptra butt lift is a perfect alternative. The filler has been been FDA approved for the face for years, but is also often used by board-certified plastic surgeons for adding volume to the butt and hips, improving cellulite dimples, and softening décolleté lines.Almost all injectables have off-brand uses that are completely safe. Just look at Botox; it can be used to treat excessive sweating, migraines, jaw clenching, and much more! Even for off brand uses, fillers almost always stay in the face, with the exception of Sculpta for body contouring. So don’t worry too too much, most of the time those off-label purposes do eventually get approved by the FDA. Confused on what’s safe or not? To double check, do some research on the procedure, make sure you are going to an experienced and trustworthy injector, and beware of bogo prices (you get what you pay for).
