5 Ways to Make Your Skin Less Oily
Oily skin: Almost everyone has experienced it at some point in their life. It's annoying and hard to control. If you're tired of mattifying powders and blotting papers, then this blog is for you. We've got the answers on how to keep oily skin under control.
1.Start using an oil cleanser
Many people with oily skin think that an oil cleanser would just make them more oily. But think about it this way: Water attracts water, and oil attracts oil. Oil cleansers can attract and break down your natural oils unlike a water cleanser ever could. However, don't only do an oil cleanse, follow up with a water cleanser to wash it all away!
2. Exfoliate Regularly
When you have oily skin, it's important to exfoliate regularly. Built-up dead skin cells can not only clog pores but also cause dehydrated and dull skin. The dead skin cells prevent your at-home skincare products from penetrating effectively which means you get less of all that good stuff. As a result, dry dull skin sets in and oil kicks in to lubricate the skin.
3. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
This is probably the most important tip we have for you. Keep oily skin hydrated! Dehydrated skin produces more oil to compensate for the lack there is. Therefore, the more hydrated you are the less excess oil is going to be produced. Avoid harsh products that will strip your skin and go for the hydrating products.
4. Avoid harsh cleansers
When we say this, we don't mean to use a gentle cleanser. We still want you to use a chemically exfoliating cleanser that will help to remove dry dead skin cells. You just need to find the right one for you! Try to find one with the most acids in it without making your skin feel dry or stripped. This way you're still benefiting from chemical exfoliation without the aftermath of dryness!
I personally use Revision's Papaya Cleanser that has glycolic acid in it; that's all my skin can handle. However, a lot of people also use Revision's Brighten Wash that has glycolic and salicylic acid in it. You'll have to trial and error until you find the one that fits you!
5. Use a clay mask every week
Oily skin types really benefit from clay masks. Natural clays have the ability to physically draw out oil and impurities from the skin. Doing this once a week can really help you keep your oily skin under control. Personally, we love SkinBetter's Detoxifying Scrub Mask. It's a clay-based scrub mask that uses naturally derived ingredients to exfoliate skin.
