5 Must Haves for Skin Care in Your 20s
By your 20’s you really need to start paying attention to skincare. We get it, the world of a million skincare products can get overwhelming, and it’s easy to start aimlessly buying products with no real routine in mind. No need to worry, ZONA Med Spa is here to help. Here are all the products someone in their 20s should start using for their best skincare routine.
Graduate to a grown-up cleanser
Yes, we’re sorry but it has to be done. Facial wipes no longer count as “cleaning” your face and drugstore cleanser just doesn’t cut it. Upgrade your cleanser to something that will take off all makeup, sunscreen, and pollution from the day. If you can afford medical-grade products, then great, Revision Skincare has a variety of cleansers to address all skin types that won’t break the bank. If not, don’t fret, cleansers such as Cetaphil or Cerave are better than others for over the counter.
Get serious about moisture
As we age, our skin gets dryer and dryer; so, getting serious about moisturizer now is proactive! The more hydrated your skin is, the less fine lines and wrinkles show. There are a lot of ways to stay moisturized but one type that is necessary is a nighttime cream. At night your skin restores and repairs. Nighttime moisturizers should be a little bit more emollient, and if there are extra claimed benefits such as antioxidants, even better! Another way to stay hydrated throughout the day is a facial mist such as rose water. No matter your skin type, don’t be afraid to moisturize. Oily skin actually NEEDS moisturizer to help balance it out. Dry skin leads to inflammation and premature wrinkles, no thanks!
Retinol
We know, retinoids have the stigma of being exclusively used by women in their mid-30s and above. However, starting to apply retinol in your early to mid-20s is an amazing start to your anti-aging journey. We highly recommend SkinBetter’s AlphaRet because of its time-release technology! Basically, the retinol only releases what you need so you don’t get dry or irritated as most retinoids do. Not only are retinoids an amazing anti-aging tool, but they are also great at combating acne.
Wear sunscreen!
We cannot preach about the importance of daily sunscreen use enough. Especially here in the valley or the sun. Most 20-year-olds are laying out tanning, trying to get some color, but don’t realize how that sun exposure will affect their skin in the long run. 95% of wrinkles are due to sun exposure… 95%! To protect your precious skin, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least 30 SPF daily, year-round. We like Revision Skincare’s Intellishade.
Bonus points for antioxidants
The sooner you start an eye cream the better! The skin around the eyes is the thinnest on our whole body, thus they age the quickest. Since people in their 20s are not worried about wrinkle reduction, an eye cream with caffeine (such as Skinbetter Eye Cream) will help to reduce dark circles. You’ll get extra credit for having at least one product in your regimen that contains antioxidants such as vitamins C, E, and F. A product that makes this easy is Skinbetters Alto Defense Serum, which contains a whopping 19 antioxidants. Worn day, night, or both, this serum can save skin from the ravaging effects of pollution, stress, UV, and infrared ray
