4 Steps to Getting Rid of a Cystic Pimple

There's nothing more frustrating than cystic acne. They're sore and swollen, and never form a head to pop. All it seems you can do is sit, wait, and conceal that puppy as much as you can. While sometimes all that can take down a deep zit is a cortisone shot, there are a few things that you can do to take down the size and redness.

1. Salicylic Acid

The monster under the cystic zit's bed: Salicylic acid. A salicylic cleanser will gently, yet effectively, exfoliate away excess oil and create a clean slate for the rest of the products. If you have dry skin, stick to a less acidic cleanser and then spot treat with salicylic.

2. Cold Compresses

Cold temperatures help restrict blood vessels, thus less swelling. Using an ice pack or an ice cube wrapped in a paper towel and hold it against the bump to reduce redness and bring down the swelling. We recommend 5 times a day, 15 minutes on 15 minutes off.

3. Benzoyl peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide has been kind of a hot topic lately in the skincare world (and for good reason). A good medical grade benzoyl peroxide can destroy the acne-causing bacteria that's trapped within the follicle and causes inflammation. Spot treat the pimples with a super thin layer, seriously less is more. If it stings a lot or for more than a few seconds, wash it off.

4. Hydrocortisone Cream

An over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream contains a low dose of steroids can help shrink pimples and soothe that redness. Make sure the benzoyl peroxide is completely dry before applying, but the more you apply and the longer you let it sink it the better it works.Remember that some of these products dry white and are sun sensitive so this we recommend to do this routine at night.
